Employers and individuals have to rise to the challenges posed by a dynamic and changing economy and the changing needs for skills development, the Minister of Education, Culture and Human Resources, Vasant Bunwaree, said on Thursday 28th January at the launching of the 2nd edition of the National Human Resource Development Plan (NHRDP) at the Paul Octave Wiehé Auditorium, Réduit.

The NHRDP provides a policy framework for education, training programs and career progression to meet the skills and competency needs of the country. The aim is to promote sustained economic growth by using the available human resource effectively and by drawing on their expertise and ingenuity.

The NHRDP will help to estimate demand for manpower in key sectors in terms of different skills/knowledge, to reduce the mismatch between the demand and supply of manpower and to develop proactive human resource development policies.

The Plan gives an idea of the likely employment opportunities that would be generated in the economy by sector, by occupation and by educational level category. It also provides a basis for training and educational, counseling and guidance.

It is to be recalled that the first edition of the NHRDP was launched in 2007 and was used as a reference document to develop programs at the University of Mauritius and also for the preparation of national plans.
